I designed the "Stoop Chair" in the summer of last year. The idea behind the chair was to design a piece that is completely open for user interpretation, and whose function is determined by the context in which it is in. I enjoy factoring humor and wit into design, as I feel a stronger attachment to products that make me smile. I personally see the "Stoop Chair" as a chair simply because I enjoy sitting on steps. Some people may see it as a commentary on suburban housing, or as a play on the phrase "porch furniture," or simply as a fun bench to sit around with your friends on. Most won't even see it as a chair at all. The chair is designed to be made from roto-molded polyethylene which allows for a wide range of colors, and even a marblized effect, though the prototype is made from insulation foam covered in fiberglass.
I just finished school for Industrial Design at DAAP. I want to design furniture for a living. I am related to Buckskin Frank, who was an outlaw in the West back in the day and was considered one of the greatest shots of his time. I do tricks on a bicycle that is too small for me when I am in good health. I like making stuff.
